What are Asphalt Shingles?

Architectural Shingles
Architectural shingles begin with two layers, fabricated on a durable fiberglass mat that resists cracking or splitting. GS shingles have a factory-applied, self sealing adhesive strip, that when activated by the heat of the sun, securely seals the shingles for greater wind resistance. GS Laminated Shingles are available with a Shadow Line, a darker granule placed on the shingle to give it the popular and affordable look of wood shake.

Strip Shingles
Also known as three-tabs, strip shingles are made of a single reinforced fiber-glass mat and has two "cut outs" or three tabs to provide a uniform look.

To prevent dark, unsightly staining, GS offers Fungus Resistant shingles in hot, humid climates. Special granule surfacing provides a reliable barrier against the growth of fungus. Just another way GS is helping to keep America Beautiful!
